I write about AI, trust and media. So I’m open about where I use AI myself.
- AI tools support the production side of my work: translation between German and English, preliminary research, data analysis, copy-editing (every published piece goes through several rounds with my virtual editor), and images.
- The journalistic substance stays with me: which sources I check, who I talk to, what I consider established, and what conclusions I draw. I verify facts myself; I conduct the conversations and observations myself; I take responsibility for every text.
Where AI use goes beyond this, or is particularly relevant to a specific piece, I note it separately at the end of that article. AI-generated images are labelled in line with legal requirements.
This is the standard I expect of others when they report on AI. It would be odd not to hold myself to it.
